    Our Approach to Enrichment

Finnish education has always understood that children are more than their academic performance. Sports, arts, creative pursuits, civic engagement, and outdoor experiences are not extras.

They are essential parts of a well-rounded education, and they are essential parts of who our learners become.

Our activities programme reflects that understanding. Whatever a learner is passionate about, they will find a community of like-minded peers and a supportive educator to help them develop it.

Beyond the Classroom

Finland International School Maldives partners with specialist facilitators to offer enriching programmes beyond the classroom. Most activities are open throughout the year, while clubs with limited places offer one-time enrolment.

    Morning Welcome

Each day begins with a gathering that builds community, sets intentions for the day, and gives every learner a moment to be seen and heard before learning begins.

This is a distinctly Finnish practice and one that families consistently tell us their children value deeply.

    Cross-Curricular Learning Blocks

The main body of the morning is given to structured learning that crosses subject boundaries. Learners engage with themes through inquiry, discussion, reading, writing, and hands-on activity.

Educators work collaboratively, allowing learners to access different areas of expertise fluidly throughout the session.

    Outdoor and Physical Time

Physical activity is an integral part of school life, supporting both learning and wellbeing. Movement enhances attentiveness, memory, and early literacy, while lessons, breaks, and events keep students energized. Physical activities foster collaboration, creativity, and focus.

By embedding activity into routines, students strengthen academic skills, build healthy habits, and enjoy vibrant social connections.

  • routine4

    Independent and Collaborative Projects

Learners regularly work on extended projects, individually or in groups, that deepen their engagement with curriculum themes.

These projects develop research skills, creativity, self-management, and the ability to communicate ideas clearly to different audiences.

    Afternoon Enrichment and Reflection

The afternoon includes enrichment activities, reading time, creative pursuits, and structured reflection on the day’s learning. Learners are encouraged to think about what they have learned, what questions remain, and what they want to explore next

This reflective habit is one of the most powerful things our learners take with them when they leave.

    Beyond School Hours

Our activities programme extends beyond the formal school day for learners who wish to develop specific interests further.

Details of after-school programmes and their schedules
